Best dua on the Day of Arafah

Listen / Download Mp3 Du’a Here

The Prophet صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم‎ said:

The best thing that I and the Prophets have said on the evening of ‘Arafah is :

لَا إِلهَ إِلاّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ المُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaahu wahdahu laa shareeka lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa Huwa ‘alaa kulli shay’in Qadeer.

None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, Who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is Able to do all things.

At-Tirmithi. Al-Albani graded it good in Sahih At-Tirmithi 3/184, and also Silsilatul-‘Ahadith As-Sahihah 4/6

The following is taken from Tafsir Ibn Kathir (dar-us-salam publications)

The Supplication of Al-Muttaqin

Allah describes the Muttaqin, His pious servants, whom He promised tremendous rewards,

(Those who say: “Our Lord! We have indeed believed”) in You, Your Book and Your Messenger.

(so forgive us our sins) because of our faith in You and in what You legislated for us. Therefore, forgive us our errors and shortcomings, with Your bounty and mercy,

(and save us from the punishment of the Fire.)

Asbahna wa-asbahal-mulku lillah walhamdu lillah la ilaha illal-lah, wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul-mulku walahul-hamd, wahuwa ‘ala kulli shayin qadeer, rabbi as-aluka khayra ma fee hatha-alyawmi, wakhayra ma ba‘daho, wa-a‘oothu bika min sharri hatha-alyawmi, washarri ma ba‘daho, rabbi a‘oothu bika minal-kasal, wasoo-il kibar, rabbi a‘oothu bika min ‘athabin fin-nar, wa ‘athabin fil-qabr.

We have reached the morning and at this very time unto Allah belongs all sovereignty, and all praise is for Allah. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is over all things omnipotent. My Lord, I ask You for the good of this day and the good of what follows it and I take refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil of what follows it. My Lord, I take refuge in You from laziness and senility. My Lord, I take refuge in You from torment in the Fire and punishment in the grave.

In the evening you say, amsayna wa amsal mulku lillah… and you replace ‘hatha-alyawmi’ with hathihil-layla.

[Saheeh Muslim 4/2088, Silsilah Ahadeeth as-Saheehah, no. 262, 1/525.]

Asking Allaah for Taqwa and Purification of the Soul

Allahumma, ‘aati nafsee taqwaaha, wa zakkihaa Anta khairu man zakkaahaa, Anta Waliyyuhaa wa Maulaaha
O Allah, grant my soul taqwa and purify it, You are the Best of those who purify it, You are its Protecting Friend and Guardian/Master.

Haadith in English:

Zaid bin Arqam reported: I am not going to say anything but only that which Allah’s Messenger (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say. He used to supplicate:” O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from incapacity, from sloth, from cowardice, from miserliness, decrepitude and from torment of the grave. O Allah, grant to my soul the sense of righteousness and purify it, for Thou art the Best Purifier thereof. Thou art the Protecting Friend thereof, and Guardian thereof.(اللَّهُمَّ آتِ نَفْسِي تَقْوَاهَا ، وَزَكِّها أنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا ، أنْتَ وَلِيُّهَا وَمَوْلاَهَا )O Allah, I seek refuge in Thee from the knowledge which does not benefit, from the heart that does not entertain the fear (of Allah), from the soul that does not feel contented and the supplication that is not responded.”

Seeking Allaah' forgiveness after the last tashahhud and before salamAllaahum-maghfir lee maa qaddamatu, wa maa ‘akhkhartu, wa maa ‘asrartu, wa maa a’lantu, wa maa ‘asraftu, wa maa ‘Anta a’lamu bihi minnee. ‘Antal-Muqaddimu (The One Who brings forward) wa ‘Antal-Mu’akhkhiru (The One Who puts back) laa ‘ilaaha ‘illaa Anta.
[Muslim 1/534]

“O Allah, forgive me for those sins which have come to pass as well as those which shall come to pass, and those I have committed in secret as well as those I have made public, and where I have exceeded all bounds as well as those things about which You are more knowledgeable. You are Al-Muqaddim and Al-Mu-akhkhir. None has the right to be worshipped except You.”

Note : al-Muqaddim (The One Who brings forward) , al-Mu’akhkhir (The One Who puts back) are the two names of Allaah
