Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger ﷺ used to keep silent between the Takbir and the recitation of Qur’an and that interval of silence used to be a short one. I said to the Prophetﷺ “May my parents be sacrificed for you! What do you say in the pause between Takbir and recitation?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “I say,
Allaahumma baa’id baynee wa bayna khataayaaya kamaa baa’adta baynal-mashriqi walmaghribi, Allaahumma naqqinee min khataayaaya kamaa yunaqqath-thawbul-‘abyadhu minad-danasi, Allaahum-maghsilnee min khataayaaya, bith-thalji walmaa’i walbarad
O Allah , separate me from my sins as You have separated the East from the West. O Allah, cleanse me of my transgressions as the white garment is cleansed of stains . O Allah , wash away my sins with ice and water and frost.

U’eethukumaa bikalimaatil-laahit-taam-mati min kulli shaitaanin wa haam-matin, wa min kulli ‘ainin laammatin ‘I seek refuge for you two with Allaah’s perfect words from every Shaytaan (devil) and poisonous creature and every evil eye.’
From Ibn Abbas who said the Messenger of Allaah –sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam– used to seek refuge for al-Hassan and al-Hussein, he would say:
‘I seek refuge for you two with Allaah’s perfect words from every Shaytaan (devil) and poisonous creature and every evil eye.’
He –sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam– said that this is how Ibrahim used to seek refuge for Ishaaq and Ismaeel.’
[Collected by Bukhari & Tirmidhi with the extra wording, authenticated by Albaani]
An Explanation:
Abul Ulaa AbdurRahmaan al-Mubarakfooree -Rahimullaah- said:
‘Allaah’s words’: ‘It has been said that they are the Qur’aan and it has also been said they are Allaah’s names.’
‘Perfect’: ‘Al-Jazari said: ‘Indeed Allaah’s speech has been described as being Perfect, because it is not permissible for any of His speech to have deficiency or fault like there is in the speech of people.’
‘It has been said that the meaning of ‘Perfect’ here is that it benefits the one seeking refuge with these ‘Perfect words’, and protect him from illnesses and this would be sufficient for him.’
‘Poisonous creature’: ‘Every type of creature that kills with poison. And it is possible that it could mean any crawling animal even if it does not kill, like insects.’
‘Evil eye’: ‘From every evil type of affliction from the eye.’
[Taken from: ‘Tuhfahtul Ahawadhi’ an explanation of Sunan at-Tirmidhi]
Caller: O Shaykh regarding ‘I seek refuge for you two with Allaah’s perfect words from every Shaytaan (devil) and poisonous creature and every evil eye.’ Is this said three consecutive times or just once?
Shaykh: No, it is mentioned once, however if it appears to the one saying this Dua’ that he needs to repeat it without specifying three times, then there is no problem with that.
Caller: and should he place his hand on the head of the one sought refuge for?
Shaykh: Yes, yes!
Caller: Even in congregation, if it is a group of children together, how can he place his hand upon all of them?
Shaykh: He should place his two hands on two of the children, then repeat this on the rest of the children.
Caller: Right hand and left hand, with both hands?
Shaykh: Yes, yes.
Caller: Regarding the hadeeth that the Messenger –sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam–
would not sleep until he recited Soorah Mulk, al – Isra, Zumar, and Sajdah, is this when he lies down on his bed at night, or before he lies down?
Shaykh: What is important is that he recites before he falls asleep, whether it is whilst he is sitting or lying then it is up to him’

Allaahumma ‘innee a’oothu bika min ‘adhaabil-qabri, wa min ‘adhaabi Jahannama, wa min fitnatil-Mahyaa wal Mamaati, wa min sharri Fitnatil-Maseehid-Dajjal
O Allah, I take refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, from the torment of the Fire, from the trials and tribulations of life and death and from the evil affliction of Al-Maseeh Ad-Dajjal
The below was taken from Fatwas of Nur `Ala Al-Darb – alifta.net
The majority of scholars held the view that this Du`a’ (supplication) falls under the category of stressed Sunnah. It was been reported on the authority of Tawus, one of the great Tabi`un (Followers, the generation after the Companions of the Prophet) that this Du`a’ is obligatory. Tawus is also reported to have ordered his son to repeat his Salah when he knew that he did not recite this Du`a’. This indicates that such Du`a’ is a stressed Sunnah, which the Mu’min should not miss in obligatory or voluntary Salah.
People are subject to trials in their lives and after death. One may commit sins or Bid`ah (innovation in Islam), or be exposed to Kufr (disbelief) in Allah’s Religion. One might be tempted with wealth, lusts, sins, or evil company, and commit acts which displease Allah, whether it be Kufr, Bid`ah, or sins during their lives or at their death. We ask Allah to grant us protection from it. One may be tested with the trial of Al-Masih-ul-Dajjal if they live during the time when he appears. Al-Masih-ul-Dajjal will appear at the end of time, claiming to be a prophet and lord of all creation. Many people will follow him. We seek refuge with Allah from this. They will be doomed because of their following him. One should ask the Lord to protect them from these trials, because they do not know whether they will be saved or not. Therefore, one must ask Allah to protect them from the torment of Hellfire, the punishment of the grave, the trials of life and death and the trial of Al-Masih-ul-Dajjal. Everyone is in need of this Du`a’ so that they will not be tried in their life or upon dying; and so that they will not experience the trial of Al-Masih-ul-Dajjal if they happen to live at the time when he appears. We ask Allah to save us from this.
Supplication for seeking guidance in forming a decision or choosing the proper course (Al-Istikhaarah)
Jabir bin Abdullaah –RadhiAllaahu anhu- said the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- used to teach us al-Istikharah (a prayer said for seeking blessings in carrying out a decision) for all matters, just like he used to teach us a chapter from the Qur’aan, he would say: If any of you intends to undertake a matter then he should pray two Rakah other than an obligatory prayer then he should say :
Allaahumma ‘innee ‘astakheeruka bi ‘ilmika, wa ‘astaqdiruka bi qudratika, wa as’aluka min fadhlikal-‘Adheemi, fa ‘innaka taqdiru wa laa ‘aqdiru, wa ta’lamu, wa laa ‘a’lamu, wa ‘Anta ‘Allaamul Ghuyoobi, Allaahumma in kunta ta’lamu ‘anna haadhal-amra – [then mention the thing to be decided] khayrun lee fee deenee wa ma’aashee wa ‘aaqibati ‘amree – [or say] ‘Aajilihi wa ‘aajilihi – Faqdurhu lee wa yassirhu lee thumma baarik lee feehi, wa ‘in kunta ta’lamu ‘anna hathal ‘amra, sharrun lee fee deenee wa ma’aashi wa ‘aaqibati ‘amree – [or say] ‘Aajilihi wa ‘aajilihi – Fasrifhu ‘annee wasrifnee ‘anhu waqdur liyal-khayra haythu kaana thumma ‘ardhinee bihi
O Allaah I request of You with Your knowledge, and by Your Power I seek capability, and I ask of you of your great favour, since indeed You are the One who is able while I am not, and You know and I do not, and You are the One who knows the unseen. O Allaah if You know that this matter – here he mentions his need – is good for me in this world and for my living and for the matters of my Hereafter – or he said, for my affairs now and the future – then decree it for me and make it easy for me and bless it for me. And if You know that this matter is evil for me in this world and for my life and for the matters of my Hereafter – or he said, for my affairs now and the affairs of my future – then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree goodness for me where ever it may be and make me pleased with it.

Shaikh Zaid Al-Madkhalee clarifies this Du’aa as Expiation of Minor Shirk
Question: Noble Shaikh, from that which is well-known and agreed upon, is that verily all of the sins and disobediences [that one does puts him/her] under the Mashiyyah [Will] of Allaah. If Allaah wills, He may forgive him and if Allaah wills He may punish him except for Shirk; for verily Allaah does not forgive it [the sin of Shirk] due to the statement of the Most High: “Indeed Allaah does not forgive that you join partners in worship with Him but He forgives what is lesser than that for whomever He wills.” [4:48] But I read in a book entitled Zaadul Muslim Al-Yaumee [The Muslim’s Daily Provision] that verily whoever says in a day: “Oh Allaah! Indeed I seek refuge with You that I associate in worship with You while I know and I seek Your Forgiveness For what I don’t know.” That Allaah shall cause the Major Shirk and the Minor Shirk to depart from him, so is the one who says this du’aa everyday forgiven for his sins?
Answer by Shaikh Zaid Bin Muhammad Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah):
The Taubah (repentance) wipes out that which preceded it. Seeking forgiveness and having regret is Taubah (repentance). The hadeeth mentions the expiation of minor shirk, which is Riyaa` [doing acts of worship to be seen of men].

The following is taken from – the concluding statement from ” The Prophet’s Prayer Described” – by Shaykh Muhammad Naasiruddeen al-Albaanee
«Glorified be Allaah, and Praised. Glorified be You, O Allaah, and Praised. I bear witness that there is no true god except You. I seek forgiveness from You and repent to You.O Allaah! send prayers on Muhammad, and on the family of Muhammad, and send blessings on Muhammad, and on the family of Muhammad, as You sent prayers on Ibraaheem and the family of Ibraaheem; You are indeed Worthy of Praise, Full of Glory»[283]
[283] The first supplication is the fullest form of the du`aa’ known as kaffaarah al-majlis (expiation of the gathering); “he who says it in a gathering of Remembrance (of Allaah), it will be like a seal to stamp it with, and he who says it in a gathering of vain talk, it will be an expiation for it” – authentically related by al-Haakim and at-Tabaraanee. The second supplication is, of course, from the Sunnah of sending peace and mercy on the Messenger. These two supplications are thus the best way of implementing the following Islamic guideline: “No people sit in a gathering in which they do not mention Allaah, nor send prayers on the Prophet, without it being a source of regret for them; if Allaah wishes, He will punish them, or if He wishes, he will forgive them” – authentically related by at-Tirmidhee, al-Haakim and Ahmad. See Shaykh Albaanee’s Silsilah al-Ahaadeeth as-Saheehah (74-81) for details.

A‘oothu bi kalimaatil-laahit-taammaati min sharri maa khalaq. “I seek protection in the perfect words of Allah from every evil that He has created.” (Recite three times)
Aboo Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet :
“Whoever recites in the evening three times; I seek protection in the perfect words of Allah from every evil that He has created, then not so much as a stinger (humah) will harm him that evening.”
In Muslim there is a similar wording without mention of reciting the supplication thrice (#2709) and at-Tirmidhee (#3898), and al-‘Alaamah Ibn Baaz (may Allah have mercy upon him) mentioned it in Tuhfat-ul-Akhyaar, saying: “The noun al-Humah denotes an animal that possess a stinger filled with poison like a scorpion, snake or something similar“. And Suhayl bin Saalih who is one of the narrators of this narration said: “Our people had learned this supplication and we used to recite it every evening when a teenage girl was stung but suffered no pain or affliction (from the sting)”.

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم Protecting Himself from the Shayaateen
Ja’far bin Sulaymaan ad-Duba’ee narrated: Aboo at-Tayyaaj narrated to us, he said: “I said to ‘Abdur-Rahmaan bin Khanbash at-Tameemee – and he was an old man – ‘did you reach the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم (during his lifetime)?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘So I said: How did the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم act on the night the shayaateen plotted against him?’ So he said: ‘Indeed the shayaateen descended that night upon the Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم from the valleys and mountain paths, and amongst them was a shaytaan, in his hand was a flame of fire, wanting to burn the face of Messenger of Allaah صلى الله عليه وسلم with it. So Jibreel – عليه السلام – descended to him and said: ‘O Muhammad! Say:
‘A’oodhu bikalimaatil-laahit-taammaatil-latee laa yujaawizuhunna barrun wa laa faajirun min sharri maa khalaqa,wa bara’a wa dhara’a, wa min sharri maa yanzilu minas-samaa’i, wa min sharri maa ya’ruju feehaa, wa min sharri maa dhara’a fil-ardhi, wa min sharri maa yakhruju minhaa, wa min sharri fitanil-layli wannahaari, wa min sharri kulli taariqin ‘illaa taariqan yatruqu bikhayrin yaa Rahmaan
(( I seek refuge by the complete, perfect words of Allaah, which no righteous one nor wicked one can exceed, from the evil of what He has created, and from the evil of what descends from the heavens, and from the evil of what ascends to them, and from the evil of what is sown in the earth and is created, and from the evil of what comes out from it, and from the evil of the fitan of the night and the day, and from the evil of everyone who comes knocking, except for the one who comes knocking with khayr, O Rahmaan! ))

*Al-Imaam Al-Bukhaaree -rahimahullaah- said in his ‘Saheeh’ [The Book of Supplications: Chapter (27): Supplication at times of distress (no. 6346)]:
“Musaddad narrated to us: Yahyaa narrated to us: from Hishaam ibn Abee `Abdillaah: from Qataadah: from Abul `Aaliyah: from Ibn `Abbaas that Allaah’s Messenger (Peace be upon him) used to say at times of distress:
(( None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, the Tremendous One, the Forebearing.None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, the Lord of the tremendous Throne.None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, the Lord of the heavens, and the Lord of the earth, and the Lord of the honourable Throne)) .”
Laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaahul-Adheemul-Haleem, laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaahu Rabbul-‘Arshil-‘Adheem, laa ‘ilaaha ‘illallaahu Rabbus-samaawaati wa Rabbul-‘ardhi wa Rabbul-‘Arshil-Kareem
[Also reported by Muslim (no. 2730), at-Tirmidhee (no. 3435), and Ibn Maajah (no. 3883)].
an-Nawawee said in his explanation of ‘Saheeh Muslim’: “It is a tremendous hadeeth. Careful attention should be given to it, and it should be said plentifully at times of distress, and when serious affairs occur.
at-Tabaree said: ‘The Salaf used to supplicate with it, and they called it ‘The Supplication of distress’ (Du`aa·ul-Karb).
So if it is said: This is rememberance (dhikr) of Allaah, and it is not a supplication (du`aa·), then the response to this is from two well-known aspects:
Firstly: This is rememberance which is used to begin the supplication then the person supplicates with whatever he wishes.
Secondly: The response of Sufyaan ibn `Uyainah, who said: ‘Do you not know of His Saying -He the Most High-:
“Whoever is preoccupied from asking of Me by rememberance of Me, then I shall give him that which is better than what I give to those who ask” ?'[1]
[1] A hadeeth qudsee, see ‘ad-Da`eefah’ (no. 1335) of Shaikh al-Albaanee.
And the poet said: If a person praises you one day, Then his praising suffices him from having to make requests of you”
al- Haafiz Ibn Hajr said in ‘Fathul-Baaree’ : “at-Teebee said: These words of praise begin with a mention of the Lord and Nuturer (ar-Rabb) so that it conforms with the removal of distress, since that is something necessitated by nurturing (tarbiyah). And it contains ‘tahleel‘ (the declaration that Allaah alone has the right to be worshipped) which comprises Tawheed, and which is the foundation for the declaration of His splendid Perfection; and ‘al-`Azamah‘ (Greatness) which indicates perfect Ability; and ‘al-Hilm‘ (Forbearance) -, which indicates knowledge- since forbearance and generosity are not envisaged from the ignorant ones; and these two are the foundation for the characteristics of honour and generosity.
(al-`Azeem) (The Tremendous One) :
Mullaa `Alee al-Qaaree said in ‘Mirqaatul-Mafaateeh‘ (5/327): “Meaning: With respect to His Self and His attributes, so no request is too difficult for Him (to answer)
al-`Aynee said in ‘`Umdatul-Qaaree’: “Meaning: Therefore nothing should be requested except from Him, and no one should be asked except Him, since no one can remove tremendous distress except for the Tremendous Lord… And this dhikr contains an indication that no one is able to remove distress except Allaah.
at-Teebee said: This is a dhikr which results in removal of the distress.”
(al-Haleem) (The Forbearing):
Mullaa `Alee al-Qaaree said: “The One Who does not hasten to punish. He is not quick to punish the one who falls short in serving Him, rather He removes harm from him by His Mercy.”
al-Haafiz Ibn Hajr said in ‘Fathul-Baaree’: “The scholars said, al-Haleem is the One Who delays punishing whilst having the ability (to punish)..
al-Haafiz Badruddeen al-`Aynee said: “The reason why ‘al-Haleem‘ (The Forbearing One) is particularized in the dhikr is that distress which comes to the Believer is usually because of some form of falling short in acts of obedience, or some heedlessness, and this gives an indication of having hope for Pardon which will reduce the grief…”
al-Haafiz al-`Aynee said: “His Saying ‘The Lord and Nurturer of the heavens and the earth‘ : He mentioned these two in particular since they are from the greatest of that which we see, and ‘ar-Rabb’ (the Lord and Nuturer) in the language is used for the one who is an owner, a master, a controller, one who nurtures, one who brings things to their state of completeness, and one who bestows favours. It is not unrestrictedly except for Allaah -the Most High.If it is used for anyone else besides Him then it is restricted to something specific, such as the owner/master (Rabb) of such and such…(thing)…
His Saying: ‘Lord of the Tremendous Throne‘ also comprises Tawheed, Lordship (Ruboobiyyah) and the greatness of the Throne… and the Throne is mentioned in particular because it is the greatest of the objects in the creation and everything else falls under it, in the way that which is lower falls under that which is higher…”
PS (AbdurRahman Meda): English transliteration of the dua is added by me , taking it from Hisn al Muslim, published by darussalam. Also I have added the audio of this supplication
